Class Info

School hours for the 2005 / 2006 school year are 8:15 to 3:05.

The following is information about fifth grade life in Mr. Miller's room at Southwood Elementary. It includes work habit expectations and ways in which I'll communicate with you about your fifth grader's progress during the course of the year.

Grading and work expectations

  • Written work should have the proper class heading. Work without a heading may not be accepted and therefore may earn a zero. Work with an incorrect heading may be docked points.
  • Your child should put his assigned number at the top right of all work. Please don't think your child is a number to me! However, having those numbers written on student papers makes the job far easier for students when they organize papers.
  • Homework should be turned in when it is due. Avoid turning it in early or late.
  • Late homework may not be accepted. If a student chooses to complete his homework days late, that will likely result in a zero in the gradebook. If it is necessary to turn in late work, a parent note will be required.

News and information

  • Expect news on a weekly basis. Weekly news will be posted on Talk 5A prior to each school week. That information will also be sent home with your fifth grader if you do not have Internet access.
  • Grades are available upon request. If you would like information on your fifth grader's progress, please contact me at any time.

Miscellaneous Items

  • Lunch: We use a system called SNAP to track and pay for breakfast and lunch. Please remind your fifth grader to care for his SNAP card. If his card is lost or ruined, the school will require $5.00 from you to replace the card. Also, please remind your child to bring home any SNAP money updates they receive at school so you are able to keep his account current.
  • Absence / Tardy: The school asks that you call the office to notify them of any absence. You are also welcome to call or email me to report an absence.
