Abraham Lincoln was the 16th United States president. He served from 1861-1865. He is noted for freeing the slaves even during The American Civil War. There also is a story about his big hat. The story goes all the mail he delivered as a mail man he put all the letters in his hat so he wouldn’t look funny carrying a big heavy mail bag. Then as a lawyer he put all the “important” papers in his hat.

He was born on February 12th, 1809, in Hodgenville, Harden County, in Kentucky. Both his parents were born in Virginia. His mother died when he was 10 years old. Also she died in 1818. He and his older sister Sarah, and his father moved from Kentucky to Indiana when he was 12 years old. Before he became president he was a lawyer. He ran against Stephan A. Douglas for senator in 1858. He was against slavery and while he served as president he and the president of the southern states declared war.

Abraham Lincoln died on April 15th the morning after being shot in the Ford’s theater in Washington D.C. by John Wilkes Booth, (an actor at the show).

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States of America. He was one of the most famous presidents ever. He is buried at Oak Ridge cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.Also if you have read the book Abraham Lincoln at the end of the book it said he had became one of the greatest men that the world has ever known.
