Annie Jump Cannon was a famous astronaut. She was born to a Delaware state senator on Dec. 11, 1863, in Dover, Delaware.

She was very interested in stargazing ever since she was a little girl. Sadly her mother died when Annie was 14 years old. Imagine being 14 with six little brothers and sisters and no mother.

Annie somehow made it through her childhood and started fresh at Wellesley College where she got a degree in physics and became interested in photography. She even got a job at that very same college.

Although she never went into space she did discover a crater that later became known as the Cannon Crater.

She later became the first woman to get an honorary doctorate in England. Soon after she became an astronaut and found a crater and named it the Cannon Crater. She discovered over 300 variable stars in our solar system before she died in April 13, 1941.
