Annie Oakley is famous because she was a Wild West sharp shooter. She is also famous for shooting a cigarette out of Kaiser Wilhelm's mouth!

Annie Oakley was born on August 13, 1860. Annie Oakley was born in northwest of Woodland, now Willowdell, in Drake County, Ohio. Her original name is Phoebe Anne Oakley Mozee. Oakley came from a family of eight including herself. When Annie was six years old her father died in a blizzard. Annie began shooting rabbits, squirrels, and other small animals when she was 9 years old. She had nothing else to do because she didn't go to school.

In Annie's early adulthood she married a man named Frank E. Butler. In 1885 Buffalo Bill hired her for his Wild West sharp shooting show. She remained a star for seventeen years. Until 1901, she was partially paralyzed in a railway crash.

Annie did some really amazing things. One time she shot 4772 out of 5000 glass balls out while they were in the air! Annie also performed before Queen Victoria.

Annie Oakley continued to set records at the age of sixty. She died in November 3, 1926. She will always be remembered for her sharp shooting skills. They even have a musical about her called "Annie Get Your Gun".
