Azerbaijan is the largest and most populous country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. Azerbaijan is located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. Azerbaijan is bounded by Russia to the north, the Caspian Sea to the east, Armenia to the west, Georgia to the northwest, and Iran to the south. The Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan is bordered by Armenia to the east and north, Iran to the west and south, and Turkey to the northwest. The capital and largest city of Azerbaijan is Baku. The president of Azerbaijan is Ilham Aliyev and the prime minister of Azerbaijan is Artur Rasizade. Azerbaijan declared independence from the Soviet Union on August 30, 1991. The Per capita of Azerbaijan $6,476.

The total area of Azerbaijan is 33,436 sg mi. Azerbaijan is slightly smaller than Maine. Azerbaijan is on the continent of Asia. The lowest point in Azerbaijan is the Caspian Sea which is at -28 m.
