Billy Mills was a famous track racer in the old Olympic races. He is known for all of his races.

Billy Mills was born on June 30, 1938 in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Billy was born as William Mills. He is an Olympic gold medallist. When he was young he gave up boxing for running. He went to the University of Kansas. After graduating with the degree of physical education he became a lieutenant in the marine corps.

In the 1994 Olympic games he raced. It was called the biggest upset in Olympic history because he raced a 10,000 meter race and won. He is the only American runner to have gotten a gold medal in the 10,000 meter run.

He won 14th in the Olympics marathon and won 1st in the 8 mile race, his time was 27 min. 12 sec. Once Billy ran 28:24.4 in an Olympics marathon and broke the Olympic world record.

Billy had a movie based on him, running brave. He was played by Robby Benson. Billy Mills is still living today but he does not run anymore.
