Bob Barker is known for being on a show called The Price is Right and for his funny jokes. Bob was born on December 12, 1923 in Darrington, Washington. Bob Barker's real name is Robert William "Bob" Barker.In 1930 his father died when he was trying to help fix an electric pole. When Barker was twelve years old. his mom married Louis Valandro, a tire salesman. Two years later they had a son. In 1981 his mother died from cancer.
After he graduated from high school he went to Drury College to get a basketball scholarship. He left school in 1943 to be trained as a fighter pilot in the Navy, but when he was signed to do a job World War II just ended. He returned to Drury College and graduated in 1947 with an Economics Degree. In 1995 Barker founded the DJ&T Foundation this organization is based in Beverly Hills. The DJ&T Foundation works to reduce the sterilization for cats and dogs being born. Barker named the company after his wife Dorothy Jo Gideon.
Barker has won seventeen Emmy awards total. Twelve were for Outstanding Game Show Host, that's more than any other total. He also has won two for Executive Producer of The Price is Right. He won a Lifetime Achievement Award for Daytime Television in 1999. In 2004, he was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame.
He also hosted the Miss Universe and Miss U.S.A. pageants every year from 1966 to 1988. In 1996, Barker came on the big screen and played himself in a comedy show with Adam Sandler. He and Sandler get in a fight during a golf tournament. That scene won a Best Fight Award on MTV.
Barker’s health problems started in 1991 after he complained of having vision problems while exercising. He is still is on national television today and he just celebrated his 50th year on national television. He retied in 2007.
