Chester Arthur

He was born on October 5, 1829. He was born in a small town called Fairfield in Franklin County, Vermont. He claimed to be born in 1830. He was the first son in the family. He had six sisters and two brothers.
He was a general during Civil War. He went to college at Union College in New York where he studied law. He graduated in 1848. He was not voted in to office the first time he ran for election but the next time the election came around he was elected. Arthur commenced practice in New York City, where he supported equal rights for blacks who objected to the racial segregation of city transportation. He also took an active part in the reorganization of the state militia. He died on November 18, 1886.
