Harry Houdini was a magician and an escape artist. He got out of a strait jacket and performed an illusion swallowing dozens of needles and thread. Then he brought up the thread with the needles and threaded on them.

Harry Houdini was born on March 24, 1874, in a Jewish family, in Budapest, Hungary.

His father served as a Rabbi. His real name was Erich Wiess. He had four brothers and one sister. He immigrated at the age of four on July 3, 1878.

At the age of ten, Harry run away for a year. While he was gone he found more permanent housing and took several jobs. When Harry was ten years old he made a trapeze.


People say that Harry could talk to the dead and they say he was a real superman. Harry Houdini was famous for his magic and stunts. He was known as the Celebrated Police Baffler because he could escape from escape- proof devices. In 1904 to 1910 he would free himself from jails, handcuffs, chains, and from ropes and strait jackets. He began escaping from a locked water filled milk can while hanging upside down from a rope surrounded with water. He held his breath for three minutes and escaped!


Harry had his own pair of handcuffs and ran his own school of magic. He died on Halloween at 1:26 p.m. on October 31, 1926, because of peritonitis from a ruptured appendix from a unexpected punch to the stomach. His funeral was on November 4, 1926. c.
