Herbert Hoover was a republican that ran against President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Sadly he lost to Franklin D. Roosevelt's 42 million votes to his 6 million votes. Herbert Hoover was the thirty-first president of the United States of America. He was president from 1929-1933. Herbert Hoover took office seven months before the stock market crash that led into The Great Depression. He lost his bid to be re-elected to Franklin Roosevelt mostly because of the Depression causing unhappiness in America.Herbert Hoover was born in West Branch, Iowa. He was born on August 10, 1874. As a child Herbert’s friends called him Bert. Herbert had two brothers and sisters; he was the middle child. At the age of seventeen Hoover entered Stanford University as a special student. He graduated from there with a degree in engineering. Herbert Hoover was married to Lou Henry; they met at Stanford University.
In 1919, some friends started a campaign to give Herbert the Democratic or Republican nomination for president. In 1920, he announced that he had always been a Republican.
Herbert Hoover was an American. He got honorary degrees from more than eighty colleges. Herbert also got gold medals from The American Institute of Mining. Herbert Hoover was the 31st president of the United States of America. He was president from 1929-1933. Herbert Hoover died on October 20, 1964.
