Jackie Robinson is a famous baseball player. He is famous for being the first African American person to play the major leagues. He also broke the major leagues baseball color barrier. In 1949, he also won the National League’s batting championship for the most valuable player.

Jackie Robinson was born January 31, 1919. He was born at Cairo, Georgia, in the United States. His death was on October 24, 1972, at Stamford, Connecticut. Jackie Robinson was the youngest out of his brothers or sisters. Jackie Robinson’s dad died when he was a year old. When his father died, his family had to move to Pasadena, California.

When Jackie Robinson was young he played basketball, football, and ran track. His favorite sport was baseball. Some Interesting facts about Jackie are he served the US army in World War II from 1949 to 1954, and he was a Lieutenant. Also he helped the Dodgers win six National League franchising. In 1962, he got into the Hall of Fame.

He was paid four hundred dollars a month for playing baseball. Jackie Robinson played with the Dodgers for ten years. Also, when he was a rookie for the Dodgers, he was second baseman. In Jackie Robinson’s first game he hit a home run, ran three singles and stole two bases.

Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the Major leagues. Also when he broke the color barrier it was in the year 1947. Jackie Robison was a great American baseball player who helped black players earn a place in the big leagues. His uniform was retired in 1997 to honor the 50th anniversary of his first game.
