James E. Wise Jr. became a naval aviator in 1953, after graduting from Northwest University. James served on borad the USS America as a intelligence officer. He later became commanding officer of many different naval intelligence units. James retired from the US Navy in 1975 as the rank of Captain. As a citizen of Alexandria, Virginia, he has been a coautor of many books that have been published by Naval Institute Press which includes, International Stars at War, Stars in Khaki, Stars in Blue, Stars in Corps, and Shooting the War: The Memoir and Photographs of a U-Boat Officer in WWII. He coauthored these books with Scott Baron. One of his most famous books is the U-505 :The Final Journey. He also wrote Sailor’s Journey into War, Sole Survivors of the Sea, and James Arness, which is an autobiography that James helped Arness write.
