Jenny Thompson is known as an Olympic swimmer. She has won eight gold medals. All the medals she won were relay races. She set a world record in 1992 by swimming a 100m freestyle in 54.48 sec! In all she had won 10 medals! She was the first woman to be awarded with eight medals!

She was born on February 26, 1973 in Georgetown, Massachusetts. She has three older brothers. Her parents also got a divorce when she was two. So she grew up in a single parent household. She was the only daughter in her family! Her mother worked as a medical technologist. She, right now is also a medical student at Columbia University. She says she could swim before she could walk! She was the youngest U.S. swimmer to win a gold medal when she was 14! She won that award by doing a 50-METER freestyle in the Pan American Games. Jenny Thompson was an Olympic swimmer that has won 10 gold medals and set a world record. She was the first woman to be awarded eight medals.
