Kansas is our 34th state and was founded in January 29 of 1861. Kansas's capital is Topeka. Kansas's population is 2,477,574 and it's area and square miles is 82,282. The state animal is the American Bison. Kansas's state flower is the Wild Sunflower and the state tree is the Cottonwood Tree. The state bird is the Western Meadowlark. Kansas's nicknames are "The Sunflower State", the "Jayhawk State" and the "Cyclone State".
