Lightning can occur in thunderstorms (must common), volcano eruptions, or dust storms. Lightning commonly has three to four stores. Lightning get be a mile long. Lightning comes from the cumulonimbus clouds. Lightning can go from the ground to the clouds. Lightning can strike at the same place twice. The Empire State Building got hit 12 times in 20 minutes. Lightning occurs when the difference between the positive and negative changes. The charge comes from tiny drops of water or ice that bump and rub together. Lightning bolts that travel at "lightning" speeds up to 136,000 miles per hour. The temperature of lightning bolts are between 15,000 to 54,000 Fahrenheit. There are over six million lighting storms. Lightning forms from positive and negative energy. There are many types of lightning:
- Positive - Makes up less then 5% of all lightning
- Anival-to-the-Ground - Is a special cloud-to-ground lightning
- Cloud-to-cloud - Bounces from cloud to cloud
- Dry Lightning - This type of lightning causes wild fires
- Rocket Lightning - Is generally a horizontal lightning
- Cloud-to-ground - Is the second most common type lightning
- Bead Lighting - This lightning is very rare
- Staccato - Staccato is the leader stroke
- Ribbon Lightning - This occurs with high cross winds
- Ground-to-ground - Is a upward moving lightning
- Ball lighting - Ball lighting is just a ball of lightning.
