New York is our 11th state and was founded in July 26 of 1788. New York's capital is Albany. New York's state flower is the rose and the state tree is the sugar maple. The state bird is the bluebird. New York's nicknames are the "Empire State" and the "Excelsior State". Did you know... that New York was the first state in the U.S. to require license plates on cars.
