He was born on September 20 He was born in Nebraska. He was noted as a warrior at a young age.
He had his first scalp against the Pawnee. During that battle he almost got a fatal wound. He became a chief during that stage in life. Red Cloud is famous for being a chief of the Oglala Lakota Sioux. He is also famous for the many wars he had led.
The Oglala maintained peace with white settlers in 1865. In the Hayfield fight and the Wagon Box fight on August first 1867 the Sioux lost many warriors. Red Cloud demanded Fort Phil Kearny and Fort C. F. Smith were removed or he would not sign the treaty. The forts were abandoned in 1868, so Red Cloud signed the treaty.
Some interesting points about him would be he was partly raised by his maternal uncle Chief Smoke. He was one of the most capable enemies of the U.S. military. Red Cloud was the only Indian to ever win a war against the U.S.
Red cloud was famous for being a chief of the Oglala Lakota Sioux. He was also famous for being the only Indian to defeat the U.S. in a war. He died in 1909.
