A thunderstorm usually has rain. It always has lightning and thunder. It usually has strong winds. Have any of you ever wondered if rain has to accompany a thunderstorm?

Well here is the answer: Rain does not always accompany a thunderstorm. Around our area 99% of thunderstorms do contain rain, but there are some storms when it doesn't. When conditions are really dry, any rain that forms may be absorbed into drier air and never reach the ground. This isn't frequent around here, but out in the plains and deserts it happens a lot. This is called a dry thunderstorm. These storms are known for producing a lot of lightning. Thunderstorms are caused by certain kinds of weather patterns. They start from the eye of the storm. About 200 people die because of storms in the USA. Computers can predict when a storm is forming. Information about how long it takes for a storm to form is unknown. There are 16,425,000 storms in the world each year. When you see lightning if you count the seconds until thunder comes, however many seconds there are, shows how many miles away it is. Many storms are dangerous. A lot of people die and lose their family and homes in these kind of storms.
