Tornado
From Wiki 5A
Many of earth's winds are normally calm, but they can change from calm to very fierce in a matter of seconds. Tornadoes have many scary sounds that can frighten. Debris and dark swirling soil makes up most dark tornadoes. Many people have heard the phrase "its raining cats and dogs", well during a tornado that is likely to happen. Tornadoes can pick up and destroy anything in its path. Many tornadoes seem like the wind is spinning a million miles an hour, but most of the tornado's winds can only travel up to 300 miles per hour. Which is still, very fast for wind to travel. When you set something on a scale and set something on the other side, and one of the sides weighs more, this is like a tornado. When air rises, air pressure drops, creating a low-pressure area. Tornadoes don't always form on land, they can form on lakes or oceans also. When this happens it is called a Water Spout.
Many of you may know that Minnesota is nicknamed "Tornado Alley". Even though it is not nicknamed "Tornado Alley", Texas reports the largest sightings for Tornadoes. Tornadoes can strike during any season. Most tornadoes are liable to strike during April, May, and June. Most tornadoes form during the afternoon, when the ground is warm and the air. Many people have seen the movie "Twister", well tornadoes are mainly named after twisters. If two tornadoes strike at the same time and at the same place, they normally will form to make one gigantic tornado. Many people say lightning never strikes the same place twice, well tornadoes are the direct opposite. Tornadoes can, and will strike the exact same place twice. Many people think that storms have to be long to be violent, well tornadoes can last up to ten minutes and can leave many people homeless, destroy work buildings, and can leave many people dead or seriously injured. Tornadoes have very fast wind, but very slow air pressure. There have been many fierce tornadoes that have occurred, but one of the most dangerous tornadoes, called the "Super Outbreak," took 315 lives and caused over 600 million dollars in damage. Even though that was a violent storm, there was an even more violent, and outrageous storms, took over 689 lives.
A cluster of about 47 tornadoes formed, and went through, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Michigan were all affected by this tornado. Over 271 people died, and 300 million dollars in damage was done. Besides high winds, tornadoes cause many other types of damage. Some of these types of damages are not visible, but they are there.
Many people think that the only way to predict weather is computers or satellites. Well a Doppler Radar Tower is used and is very helpful. This device has computers, satellite, and radar technology combined. We have learned to alter many different parts of life, or the natural world to fit our special undivided attention, but tornadoes are out of our reach. We have to respect nature's powers. We have to learn that nature's amazing forces answer not to us, but us to them.
